John Uppgren Tufts

Uppgren is entering his second season as an assistant coach on the Jumbo men’s lacrosse team after graduating in 2016 as the program’s all-time leading scorer. His marks of 237 goals and 418 points still stand as Jumbo records. His 181 assists are tied for the program’s most. In his first season as an assistant, the team went 13-6 and made it to the third round of the NCAA tournament.

During his time as a player with Tufts, Uppgren helped the team accumulate a 78-12 record, win three NESCAC Tournament Championships, and advance to three NCAA Tournament Championships, winning two of them. He finished his career in the top seven in NCAA Division III history in both goals and assists and third overall in points.

In his senior season, Uppgren was named the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Co-Player of the Year and Most Outstanding Attackman. He received the LT. COL. J.I. (Jack) Turnbull Award for Most Outstanding Attackman in DIII. He was named a First Team All-American for three straight years. Uppgren was named the NESCAC Player of the Year as a senior as well as to the All-NESCAC First Team for the third time. He was also named NESCAC Player of the Week twice as a senior and three times total in his career.

Uppgren was selected in the 2016 Major League Lacrosse draft by the Boston Cannons. He played there for two seasons before being traded at the end of the second season to the Atlanta Blaze.
